FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a protocol that describes file transfers between a host and a remote computer. By default, port 21 is used for FTP traffic.

Users can use a FTP client program to transfer files between computers. However, FTP is not secure, and utilities like SFTP (Secure FTP) and SCP (Secure copy) are often preferred.
